Spinning Yarn

This Much I Know To Be True

Commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art in May 2011 as a part of IN FLUX, This Much I Know To Be True explored pshycho-geography to gain a further understanding of the place of Scottsdale AZ. The project took place over a six week period of time and incorporated various artistic processes including durational and performative events such as walking the entire 27 mile distance of Scottsdale Road, spinning yarn to construct a hand knit banner with the text of the title, interacting with visitors to the studio space as well as in public venues and recording comments from citizens and visitors to the city about their experiences of living/working/playing in Scottsdale. This particular project was revealing in how people interacted with me in the various locations and how the chosen acts of spinning and knitting often overcame people's intrepedation of interacting with me in various settings. A detailed video and specific information pertaining to the project are in the links listed below.
