Text/ile is a work created in collaboration with The Present Group and the Illinois Artists Council. It is a series of 50 editions which consist of woven diagrams of the first eight human chromosomal configurations. The material was woven on a Jacquard loom at The Jacquard Center in Hendersonville, NC in July 2008. The images imbedded in the fabric consists of a scientific diagram that was converted into an Adobe Illustrator file and then re-configured into multiple weave structures using Jaq-cad software. The final electronic design was sent to the mill and produced in a manner of minutes on an industrial machine rather than weeks or months as would normally occur on a floor loom. This work further investigates my interest in biological constructions, complex systems and individual versus collective attributes found in nature, sociology, pathology, etc. Please visit the link to The Present Group for this project in detail including a You Tube excerpt of the material being woven and an interview with the artist.
